FREE Solar PV panels have been installed in 129 schools in Limerick under a scheme that provides eligible schools with up to six kilowatts peak of roof-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) installations, which equates to approximately 14 solar panels.

Since the launch of the first phase of the government programme late in 2023, more than 1,100 schools have been approved for PV panels on their roofs in 11 areas around the country.

Minister for Education Norma Foley has confirmed the numbers to Fianna Fail Minister of State Niall Collins who welcomed the news. Minister Collins said: “It is a win-win because it is saving schools money and reducing their carbon footprint.”
