LONG-SERVING Danny Neville (Ballysteen) will miss the early stages of Limerick’s National Football League campaign, it has been confirmed.

Neville, who debuted back in 2014, has suffered a broken bone in his foot and will be sidelined for a period.

In better news, captain Iain Corbett of Newcastle West (NCW) has recovered from injury and featured among the 16 substitutes introduced in last Saturday’s useful friendly fixture with Clare at a well-presented Páirc na nGael, Askeaton.

Swayed by an opportunity to view first-hand the new rule changes, the game attracted a fine attendance.

The tie was handy for players to familiarise themselves with rule changes that will be in operation across county and club competitions in 2025.

On that front, referee Jonathan Hayes (St Senan’s) was well briefed on his expanded workload.

For the record, Clare won (2-14 to 1-10) but Limerick used the outing to introduce many new players such as goalkeeper Jeffrey Alfred of county champions Adare, Fiachra Cotter (Fr. Casey’s), Seán Clancy (Galtee Gaels), Tadhg O’Shaughnessy (Kildimo/Pallaskenry) and Jason Hassett, Mungret St. Paul’s.

Limerick, again under the management of NCW’s Jimmy Lee, are in Division Four, alongside Tipperary, Longford, Wexford, Waterford, Carlow, London and Wicklow.

First up for the Shannonsiders is an away trip to Longford at the end of the month.
