THE SEARCH has been stood down for a man in his 60s who had been missing in West Limerick since the early hours of Tuesday morning after the discovery of a body.

Gardaí this Thursday afternoon confirmed that the body of Joe Noonan, of Kilmallock in County Limerick, was found, with the local man confirmed deceased.

A land and air search kicked off for the 62-year-old Kilmallock man on Wednesday evening and continued this Thursday morning.

The search and rescue effort was carried out by a team of local volunteers in frozen fields, ditches, and byways, assisted by Gardaí, as well as the Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard rescue helicopter Rescue 115, searching the Granagh, Ballingarry, and Croom area.

The late Mr Noonan was reported as being last seen in the early hours of this past Tuesday, with fears for his safety raised on account of the harsh ice and snow conditions across the county since the weekend.
