MOTHER Macs Public House celebrated its 9th anniversary in style with the exclusive launch of Odyssey, a 22-year-old cask-strength single malt whiskey crafted in collaboration with Sailors Home Irish Whiskey. Held on December 18th, the event welcomed over 50 guests, including whiskey aficionados and industry icons, to honour this unique release at Ireland’s Whiskey Bar of the Year 2024.
Michael McMahon of Mother Macs remarked, “A collaboration of this nature celebrates Limerick as much as the businesses involved. It is about bringing together passion, desire, and a love for Irish whiskey to create Odyssey – a truly special and unique release.”
Cian Quilty of Sailors Home delved into the whiskey’s origin story, explaining the connection between the brand and Limerick’s Sailor’s Home building. “Built in 1856, it offered sailors a place to stay, share a drink, and exchange stories. The coat of arms then and now symbolizes exploration, navigation, and welcome. With Odyssey, we honour that spirit and reward adventurers seeking something exceptional.”
Whiskey legend Dr. Jack O’Se, who played a pivotal role in crafting Odyssey, captivated the audience with his reflections on its complexity. “When you taste an exceptional whiskey, it engages you – the surroundings, the company, and past experiences all come together in the moment. This whiskey captivated me from start to finish. An epic expression, a flavour odyssey.”
On the nose, Odyssey reveals nectarine, mango, and floral notes, while the palate is an indulgent journey through sweet almond, dark treacle, and apricots, finishing with luxurious dark chocolate. Limited to just 108 bottles, Odyssey is available exclusively at Mother Macs Public House, making it a collector’s dream and a must-try for connoisseurs.
