THE NUMBER of new cars sold in Limerick increased marginally from 2023 to 2024.
That’s according to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, who reported 3,971 new cars registered in Limerick in 2024 – an increase of four per cent on the 3,803 registered across 2023.
Despite the small growth in new registrations, there was a steady decrease in the registration of electric cars in Limerick, with 446 new electric car registrations marking a 24 per cent decrease from the 589 made across the county in 2023.
Petrol cars took up the largest market share on a national level in 2024 (30.31 per cent), followed by diesel (22.8), hybrid (20.9), electric (14.4), and plug-in hybrid (10).
