LIMERICK businesses and residents broke out all the trees and trimmings to tackle the Limerick Merry and Bright Challenge, with some cash prizes on offer from Limerick City and County Council.
This festive competition, which saw businesses, residents, and offices across the city and county transform their spaces into dazzling displays of holiday cheer, has awarded a total of €10,000 in prizes to the most creative and festive participants.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, congratulated the winners and thanked the community for their participation, saying he was “delighted with the response to our call to make Limerick merry and bright this Christmas”.
“The creativity and effort put into decorating homes and businesses has truly lit up all of Limerick.
“Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone who participated this year and I am already looking forward to seeing next year’s entries,” Mayor Moran said.
€2,000 each was awarded to the inaugural competition, winners, including Coqbull on Thomas Street in Limerick City, who took home the Best Christmas Shop Front prize in the ‘Limerick’s Historic City Centre’ category.
Best County Shop Front went to Ela Maria of Newcastle West, while LPYMA took the prize for the best Christmas tree in the ‘Georgian Quarter Shops and Offices’ section.
Eva Birdthistle won the ‘Residents in the Georgian Quarter’ section, also netting herself €2,000 in prize cash.
Vilmos Krizsan of Knockainey won the ‘Best Christmas House Decoration’ section.
The challenge was judged by Lisa Kearney from Rooney Auctioneers and Liam Dwan, general manager of Brown Thomas, who were both impressed by the high standard of entries.
