Limerick’s Hollywood close up not blown away in snow storm

The 4 Kids Walk into a Bank crew are back in Limerick this week.

DESPITE widespread disruption and upheaval across Limerick this week as a result of the thick layers of snow and ice blanketing the county, the show must go on for one major Hollywood operation filming on Shannonside.

Oscar nominated actor Liam Neeson is back in Limerick this week to continue filming for 4 Kids Walk into a Bank, which saw parts of Limerick City turned into 1990s Massachusetts back in December.

The production saw Gleeson’s Spar on Catherine Street transformed into ‘Caruso’s Mini Mart’, while the Sarsfield Credit Union directly across from Gleeson’s hosted signage for a ‘City Grand Bank’.

It is also rumoured that the former Ulster Bank building on O’Connell Street will host the interior of the titular bank in the heist flick.

Produced by Wild Atlantic Pictures and directed by Frankie Shaw, the comic book caper follows Neeson’s Danny, a former bank robber who has turned over a new leaf, who gets dragged back into his old ways when figures from his past catch up with him and he is once again roped into a bank heist.

It is up to his daughter Paige and her friends to save the day in the unlikeliest of ways – robbing the bank themselves.

Now, the actors and the production team behind 4 Kids Walk into a Bank have descended on Limerick once again for another two weeks of filming.

On the back of this, Limerick City and County Council have advised the public that there will be a number of road closures throughout this time.

Newenham Street, Jesuit’s Lane, Lourigan’s Lane, and O’Sullivan’s Place were all to be closed to both traffic and parking on Tuesday (January 7), from 12 noon to 12 midnight.

Hartstonge Street (from its junction with O’Connell Street to its junction with Pery Square), Catherine Place (from its junction with Catherine Street to its junction with Hartstonge Street), Catherine Street (from its junction with Cecil Street to its junction with Mallow Street), and Lower Glentworth Street and Upper Glentworth Street (from the junction with Pery Street to the junction with Henry Street) will all be closed for a day on the week of Monday January 13 and Friday January 17 to facilitate the Hollywood production.

The project is is being filmed in collaboration with Film in Limerick and and Robbers Productions.
