IT MAY be a case of a white Nollaig na mBan on Shannonside as Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange snow and ice warning for Limerick and five other counties.

The Status Orange warning will come into effect from 5pm this Saturday (January 4) and stay in place until 5pm on Sunday (January 5), with the Irish weather service predicting large snowfall.

The weather service has warned caution across the board on Shannonside, with predictions of difficult travelling conditions, poor visibility, difficult underfoot conditions, and animal welfare issues with “significant snowfall accumulations” a high possibility.

Met Éireann also warned of likely disruptions to those travelling by air, rail, or bus.

The Status Orange warning is in place for Limerick, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow, Clare, and Tipperary.
