WITH winter chilling us all to the bone in recent weeks, it’s all the more easy to appreciate the heart-warming work being done by a group of industrious residents of McAuley House nursing home in Limerick City.
The ladies of the home’s knitting circle have been turning out colourful knitted blankets for people in poorer parts of the world, including Africa which can see very cold winters.
Stephanie McMahon, director of nursing at McAuley House, told the Limerick Post that “the ladies are fantastic. They have produced so much knitting for thpose who need it, and there’s such love in every stitch.”
The 14 ladies, under the care of the Sisters of Mercy-owned facility, keep busy knitting beautiful blankets to send to centres where the order works.
Many in the knitting group have themselves taken vows with the Order themselves and served both in Ireland and on the missions.
The blankets are formed from knitted squares, made with donated wool and sewn together in wonderful colours of the rainbow.
“They are absolutely amazing. Their work is so beautiful and they take such great pride in it. They’re an incredible bunch of ladies,” Stephanie told the Limerick Post.
