THE ladies of the Creeves Celtic Soccer Club were kicking out for a good cause earlier this year when they hosted the inaugural Ó Conghaile Cup charity soccer match.
The charitable clash saw the Creeves Celtic Ladies team face off with the experienced Creeves Ladies Legends on the club’s home turf in Askeaton.
The result of the match, outside of a thrilling game and a great day for all, was the raising of €3,000 for Milford Care Centre – which was handed over to the local hospice earlier this month.
Organisers of the event said the vital local hospice was delighted with the donation, which came from a new annual soccer event named in honour of a proud Limerick woman.
The Ó Conghaile Cup is named after Monica Bean Uí Conghaile, a talented artist in her time who was born and raised in Limerick and served as a beloved art teacher at St Nessan’s in Limerick City.
The mother of three, who lived for a number of years in the US, passed away in Milford Care Centre 20 years ago, and the Ó Conghaile Cup was introduced this year in her honour.
It is hoped that the inaugural game, with the Ó Conghaile Cup perpetual trophy at the centre of it, will become an annual event, helping raise funds for an important local institution.
