GARDAÍ in Limerick have put out the call for help in investigating two local burglaries.

The first occurred when a burglar targeted a house at Caherlane, Abbeyfeale in County Limerick on December 11. The burglar forced their way in through a side door of the home between 1.30pm and 2.40pm, Gardaí said.

Once inside, the house was ransacked, but nothing was taken. Investigating Gardaí noted that a suspect red Volkswagen Golf hatchback was seen in the area at the time.

Anyone with any information relating to the car or the burglary is asked to contact Gardaí in Abbeyfeale on 068 30 010.

The second burglary took place the following day (December 12) in Clonlara, County Clare, when a thief broke into a house at Cloonomra between 1am and 6am.

Gardaí said the thief forced a rear door in an effort to get inside. Once inside, he stole a set of car keys that were left in the kitchen, using them to steal the family car -a blue Skoda Superb hatchback – which was parked outside.

The car has still not been recovered, and Gardaí at Mayorstone Garda Station (061 456 980) are asking for assistance from the public to further their investigation.

Garda John Finnerty said that Gardaí would “advise all car owners not to leave their car keys where they could be easily accessible to criminals in the event of a burglary”.

“We have noticed a recent trend where many criminals break into houses and then steal both family cars that are parked outside.”
