Charities urge support from Limerick communities for Syrian refugees

FOUR Irish charities—the Irish Red Cross, Doras, the Irish Refugee Council, and Nasc — are urging communities to welcome and support Syrian families facing severe risks in Lebanon.

Through the Community Sponsorship Ireland programme, groups of friends, neighbours, and colleagues can help provide accommodation and integration support for families under the Irish Refugee Protection Programme.

This community-first initiative, inspired by a Canadian model, has successfully resettled 26 Syrian and Afghan families into Ireland since 2019.

John Lannon, CEO of Doras, said the program will “offer these families the opportunity to rebuild their lives in welcoming communities”.
