Desmonds prevail in Hurling Thriller

Oisín O'Farrell captained ABK Desmonds to win the last local GAA Final of 2024.

IN THE last County Final of the year, Askeaton Ballysteen Kilcornan Desmonds overcame Granagh Ballingarry Croom, 1-18 to 2-14, in a thrilling Under-20 B Hurling decider at Seán Finn Park, Rathkeale.

Aided by a near gale, Desmonds led by four points at half time and withstood a serious second half onslaught from their opponents.

The winners were captained by new county senior addition Oisín O’Farrell, and
had a stand-out performer in full-forward Taghg O’Brien, who scored five superb points from play.

Elsewhere, Cappagh Rathkeale easily overcame Shannon Gaels Athea, 3-7 to 0-2, in
the under-20 A football final in Askeaton.

Fintan McNamara scored two goals, and Aidan O’Shea one for the winners.

Also, Galtee Gaels defeated St. Kieran’s, 0-12 to 1-5, in the B Final at
Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale.

Paddy English and Cian Ryan hit four points each for the Gaels, while Conor McNamara landed three.

The new local season opens in late February with action in the County Leagues.
