A YOUNG woman who went on what a judge described as a “shoplifting spree” while on bail on earlier charges has been jailed for a total of 30 months.

Grace Clery (34), of 6 Ballygrennan Close, Moyross, pleaded guilty to a list of shoplifting offences, including stealing goods from Brown Thomas on April 16, 2024, to the value of €258, goods from Tesco on July 9, 2024, to the value of €228, and burglary at Cruises Street car park on May 9, 2024, stealing €160 in cash.

Judge Colin Daly heard that she was arrested for the third time on July 17 this year, having been granted bail on previous charges.

Limerick Circuit Court heard that she had committed 10 of the admitted offences while already on bail on criminal charges.

The court was told that Ms Cleary had a difficult personal history and had admitted the offences, co-operating fully with the Gardaí.

Judge Daly noted that Ms Cleary had shown genuine remorse, but said that she “went on a shoplifting spree while on bail”.

He also noted that many of the stealing incidents were “of a brazen nature”.

He was told that the burglary was an “opportunistic offence”.

Judge Daly imposed a total jail sentence of 30 months and a suspended sentence of 30 months, suspended for two years after Ms Cleary’s release.
