AS THE 34th Dáil sat for the first time this past week, and recently elected Labour Party TD Conor Sheehan called up from his seat on Limerick City and County Council with it, a new face has been co-oped into the hallowed halls of the local authority.

Councillor Pádraigh Reale was officially named the newest addition to Limerick City and County Council, taking up Deputy Sheehan’s seat in the Limerick City North constituency as he made his way east to Dáil Éireann for his first sitting on December 19.

Cllr Reale was joined in the Council chamber by his partner Niamh Cahill, mum Margaret Reale, and family and friends as he took his seat in the Dooradoyle chamber for a special full meeting of the local authority.

The 33-year-old is well known in Garryowen as the chairman of Geraldines FC and as a social innovation officer at Limerick Sports Partnership.

Limerick’s newest councillor said he was “deeply honoured to take on this role and to represent the people of Limerick City North”.

“I am committed to continuing the excellent work of my predecessor, Conor Sheehan, and to working tirelessly to address the needs and concerns of our community. Together, we can make Limerick an even better place to live, work, and play.”

Welcoming Cllr Reale to the Council fold, Mayor John Moran said: “We’ve all seen that Pádraigh is already very active in the community through his work with Limerick Sports Partnership and Geraldines FC, and I look forward to working further with him.”

“I’ll just advise him to get some rest over the Christmas period as there is already a packed agenda for 2025 and, knowing Pádraigh, I am sure he has even more to add.”
