Loving son who perished in blaze with father to be laid to rest

THE COUNTY Limerick father of two who died in a blaze earlier this week, which also claimed the life of his elderly father, will be laid to rest this weekend.

John Lee, who lived at the bottom of Cromhill in Hospital, County Limerick, was staying in the home of his elderly father, Stephen Lee, when a fire broke out at the elderly man’s home in Littleton, near Thurles, County Tipperary, at around 2.30am on this Tuesday past morning (December 17).

John, a father of two in his 50s, was taking his turn at staying the night in Littleton to look after his father, Stephen, who was in his 80s and suffered from Alzheimers, when the blaze broke out.

The bodies of the father and son were found at the scene on McDonagh Terrace in the village. Gardaí carried out an investigation in the home, and it is believed at this point that the fire was accidental.

John is survived by his wife, Mary, and children, Aoife and Stephen, sister Karen, brother Christopher, aunts, uncle, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, and a large circle of friends.

John was pre-deceased by his mother Mary, sister Sinéad, and niece Jessica.

His remains will be lying in repose at the family home in Cromhill, Kilteely, County Limerick, this Friday (December 20) from 2pm to 7pm, followed by evening prayers.

Reception on Saturday (December 21) into St Ailbe’s Church, Emly, County Tipperary for Requiem Mass at 11am, followed by service in Shannon Crematorium at 2pm.
