GARDAÍ recovered ammunition as part of planned searches conducted in parts of Limerick.
The ammunition, the quantity of which was not disclosed, was recovered during this past Saturday (December 14).
Gardaí requested the assistance of members of the Defence Forces to help in the search, which also yielded a quantity of fireworks.
Gardaí and army personnel on Saturday searched areas in Kennedy Park in Limerick City and at Daly’s Cross, about 12km east of the city.
Gardaí did not have information when asked for details. A Garda spokeswoman said on Saturday evening that she would “make enquiries” about the searches.
When the Defence Forces were contacted, a spokesman said that “bomb disposal experts from the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to a request for assistance from An Garda Síochána in relation to items found in the Limerick area”.
“Following an assessment by the EOD team a quantity of fireworks and non-defence forces ammunition was disposed of, and the scene was handed over to AGS,” the Defence Forces spokesman said.
