THE Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has begun its public consultation to inform its independent statutory review into urgent and emergency care in the Mid West region.
The authority is seeking the views of patients, family members, and members of the public and submissions are open until January 15, 2025.
Earlier this year, the Minister for Health asked HIQA to conduct the review with the main objective of ensuring safe, quality care in the region.
HIQA has been tasked with considering the case for a second emergency department within the region, in the context of the population changes in recent years and the pressures in University Hospital Limerick.
It followed persistent overcrowding in UHL and the death of Aoife Johnston from sepsis in the emergency department in December 2022.
An engagement form is available on the HIQA website for anyone who wants to make submissions.
The HIQA review is due to be completed by next summer.
