A DRIVER who allegedly failed to stop for Gardaí was lucky not to have been seriously injured or killed after the car collided with a number of parked cars and was launched into the air in Limerick City overnight.

Videos of the dramatic collision and its aftermath have been widely circulated on social media platforms, showing many vehicles damaged in the smash.

The driver of the car was arrested and was due to appear before Limerick District Court this Monday (December 9) charged in connection with the collision, Gardaí said.

The collision occurred around midnight this Monday on Upper William Street.

A Garda spokeswoman said that Gardaí were “alerted to a vehicle driving suspiciously in the Upper William Street area of Limerick City on Monday, 9th December 2024” and that “the driver of the vehicle, a man in his late teens, failed to stop when requested by Gardaí”.

“The vehicle then collided with another vehicle, which was unoccupied at the time,” said the Garda spokeswoman.

“As this is now a matter for the Limerick District Court, An Garda Síochána cannot provide further comment.”

A video circulated online, which was believed to have been recorded on the dash camera of a passing vehicle, shows a car colliding with parked cars on Upper William Street, before becoming airborne and landing right side up on its wheels.

A Garda car with its blue emergency lights activated is also seen on the footage responding to the scene.
