THERE were some notable weekend wins by local teams in the prized FAI Junior Cup.
Fairview breezed into the last 32 with a 4-1 home defeat of Ballyheigue Athletic. Darragh Rainsford grabbed a brace of goals for the multiple competition winners, while there was one apiece for Shane Duggan and Cale Langton.
There was advancement also for Janesboro courtesy of a 3-1 home victory. The crucial scores came from Aodh O’Hanluain, Kai Joyce and the ever-reliable Shane Clarke.
Also through are Mungret Regional following a quality 2-1 at Newmarket Celtic. On the mark twice for Paul Danaher’s outfit was the superb Danny McCarthy.
Aisling Annacotty suffered a 3-1 home loss to Castlebar Celtic.
Meanwhile in the Munster Junior Cup, Aisling are at St. Michael’s and Kilmallock are away to Villa FC on Saturday (both 7pm), while on Sunday Janesboro are at Newport (11am) and Pike Rovers host De La Salle (2pm).
In the Premier League, Regional United entertain Fairview on Saturday, 7pm.
