COUNTERFEIT cash is in circulation in Limerick as the Christmas shopping season continues.
That was the warning from Community Policing Sergeant Aoife Bannon of Henry Street Garda Station, who said that there has been two separate incidents reported in recent weeks in Limerick in relation to counterfeit cash in circulation.
“Both incidents involved fake €50 notes, but were extremely believable,” Sergeant Bannon explained.
She advised retailers to be aware of potential fake cash in the “lead up to one of the busiest times of the year for shopping”, and encouraged retailers to secure a pen for marking notes to ensure they are legal tender.
