Top French award given to MIC’s Head of History

The award was bestowed upon MIC's Head of History Dr Liam Chambers.

A NAPOLEONIC-ERA award has been bestowed upon the Head of History at Mary Immaculate College, Dr Liam Chambers.

The prestigious Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques – France’s oldest honour created in 1808 by Emperor Napoleon – in recognition of his work with the Wild Geese Expert Group, bringing together researchers to study the history of the thousands of Irish soldiers who fled the country to fight in the French armies between the 16th and 17th centuries.

He also played a key role in the Limerick Bastille Day Wild Geese Festival.

The prestigious award is bestowed by France on those who have achieved excellence in the field of education.
