Kevin Barry – reading, chats and disco at Record Room

CELEBRATED author Kevin Barry is set to make a return to Limerick on Friday, December 13 for a special evening of reading and conversation at The Record Room, The Commercial Bar. 

This marks Barry’s first Limerick appearance since 2017, and the intimate, limited-capacity event promises to be a memorable pre-Christmas celebration, bringing together three leading artists from our vibrant arts scene.

Barry will read from his latest novel, ‘The Heart in Winter’, before engaging in conversation with musician, educator, and Limerick native Steve Ryan. Ryan, known for his work with Choice Prize-nominated band windings and the iconic Giveamanakick,.

Acclaimed DJ and broadcaster Aoife Nic Canna, a pioneer of the Irish dance music scene and a longtime collaborator with Barry from their early days in Limerick’s club culture of the late 80s and 90s will be on the decks for the after party. 

A founding member of the seminal Horny Organ Tribe, and dubbed the first lady of Irish house by Hot Press, she had regular appearances at culture-defining nights/clubs like Cork’s Mór Disco, Dublin’s Temple of Sound, and Manchester’s Hacienda.

Kevin Barry, originally from Limerick and now based in County Sligo, is the author of acclaimed novels including City of Bohane, Night Boat to Tangier, and Beatlebone, as well as multiple short story collections. His work, regularly featured in The New Yorker, has been translated into over 20 languages. He is also co-editor of the Winter Papers arts anthology.

The event is presented by I.NY, with doors opening at 7:30pm and the show beginning at 8pm. Tickets, priced at €15, are limited to just 100 and are available now from The Commercial.
