Thomond looking good in Junior League

THOMOND’S push towards retaining their Munster Junior League title took another step closer as with a sixth bonus point victory with a 24-14 home win over Thurles.

The holders led 24-0 at half time with tries from Andrew Lyons, Seán Rice, Jamie McGarry and Luke Costelloe, with Jason Kiely kicking two conversions.

Elsewhere, St. Mary’s collected maximum points with a 35-20 home win against Crosshaven.

Tyrone O’Halloran scored two tries for the Saints and Adam Kiely and Paul Curtis got a try each along with a penalty try. Adam Guerin kicked four conversions.

And, Newcastle West returned to winning ways with a 24-18 away win at Kanturk.

Seán Darcy, Alan Rice and Dan Normoyle scored tries for the winners. Rice kicked two conversions and a penalty, and Andrew Mortell also added a conversion.
