FIVE horses were seized outside a busy Limerick shopping centre this past week.

That’s according to a statement from Limerick City and County Council, confirming that the local authority seized the five abandoned horses outside the Parkway Shopping Centre on the Dublin Road in Limerick City on Tuesday last (November 26).

The animals seized included a two-year-old grey male Shetland, an aged grey female Palomino, a four-year-old brown and white female, a bay male foal, and a two-year-old chestnut female.

This brings the number of animals seized by the Council this year alone to over 80, following the seizure of 15 horses in St Mary’s Park and Moyross earlier this month.

The Council has seized more than 1,100 abandoned horses in the city since 2016.
