Councillor calls for plan to be put in place to encourage more votes in local elections

Limerick Fine Gael councillor Tom Ruddle.

FINE Gael councillor Tom Ruddle urged the Council to put a plan in place to encourage more people to vote in local elections.

In response to Cllr Ruddle at a recent Newcastle West area meeting, councillors were informed that the Electoral Commission and Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage ran campaigns to promote voter participation prior to recent electoral events and will continue to do so.

“The Register of Electors team, Corporate Services, Governance, and Customer Services Department ran an awareness campaign encouraging more people to vote.

“The team will also continue to engage with the Electoral Commission and Department to coordinate on campaigns to increase participation,” Cllr Ruddle was informed by Council staff.
