COUNTING in day two of General Election 2024 is underway here at Limerick Racecourse in Patrickswell, with the diligent count staff getting back to business just before 10am this morning.
Count seven, which was announced at arount 10.30am ago did not see anyone elected, however Sinn Féin candidate and sitting TD Maurice Quinlivan is edging ever closer to the quota of 8,435 after a strong transfer from party colleague Senator Paul Favan.
After this count, Deputy Quinlivan is on 7,420 votes, looking likely to be returned to the first in Limerick today to be returned to the 34th Dáil.
Behind Deputy Quinlivan is Kieran O’Donnell (FG), currently on 6,284 votes.
The Green Party’s Brian Leddin has been eliminated from the race, following a nationwide swing against the Greens, and his 1,929 votes are currently being distributed among the remaining candidates.
The race for the all-important fourth seat in the Limerick City constituency is hotting up, with SocDems candidate Elisa O’Donovan currently in fourth position in the race with 3,449 votes.
Labour’s Conor Sheehan is behind her on 2,991 votes.
The count will continue into the afternoon here at Limerick Racecourse in an effort to fill the remaining three seats in the Limerick City constituency, after Fianna Fáil’s Willie O’Dea was returned last night.
