No Silent Night as a host of musical Christmas events to get Limerick in the festive spirit

The Alvin Purple Experience is back this Christmas.

AS THE festive season draws in, there is plenty of musical fare to keep everyone entertained.

Kicking off on December 1, there are a number of local gigs and concerts taking place across the county, with both Christmassy and non-Christmas themed events.

Locals can get in the Christmas spirit early with Christmas with Judy taking place on December 1 upstairs at Dolans.

On Thursday December 5, Christmas comes to the Milk Market, with Christmas at the Big Top, featuring fun and music for all the family from 6pm. Expect special guests including Liam O’Brien, Jane Fraser, and Sarah Dolan.

On December 6, a candlelight concert featuring the works of composer Hans Zimmer will take place in St Mary’s Cathedral at 6pm, while later that evening, another candlelight concert will play the music of Coldplay in the same venue at 7pm and 9pm.

Also on December 6, the Sharon Shannon Big Band Tribute to Shane MacGowan will fill the Big Top with the sounds of former Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan, who passed away on November 30, 2023.

The Alvin Purple Christmas Glamaganza will take to the stage in Dolans also on December 6, with some of the biggest festive rock anthems such as Merry Christmas, I Wish it Could be Christmas Everyday, Lonely This Christmas, and We Wish You a Glammy Christmas sure to get the festive spirit going.

On Friday December 13, the Irish Chamber Orchestra will host its Choral Christmas at St Mary’s Cathedral.

The sounds of Christmas carols will ring out on December 14 with Christmas Carol Singing at St Mary’s Cathedral, while on Thursday December 19, Christmas with Áncór will also take place in St Mary’s.

Buskers’ Christmas at the Garden will take place at the Abundant Life Church on Henry Street on December 20, with local talent taking to the stage to sing some Christmas songs.

Saturday December 21 will see O Holy Night Live with the Three Tenors bring a Celtic vibe to Christmas, taking place at the Redemptorist Church on the South Circular Road.

Crooning at Christmas with Liam O’Brien will take place on Sunday December 22 and Monday 23 at Dolans, with the event marking its 20th anniversary this year, while a Civic Carol Service will take place at St Mary’s, led by the Dean of the Cathedral.
