Limerick to come alive with Christmas light and cheer this weekend

The Magical Winter's Tale parade will take place at 7.30pm this Sunday from Pery Square.

CHRISTMAS is set to get its official start on Shannonside this weekend as the Magical Winter’s Tale light parade dashes and dances through Limerick City.

The festive light parade, performed by LUXe Theatre Company and presented by Limerick City and County Council, will kick off from Pery Square at 7.30pm on December 1, tracing a line of cheer along the streets of Georgian Limerick.

Performers from LUXe Theatre Company will float through the streets in a whisp of beautifully costumed characters and elegant processional sculptures that will light up the Treaty streets with designs from Irish spectacle artists Mark Hill and Mandy Blinco.

Viewing points for the parade will be set out along Pery Square, Tait’s Clock, Glentworth Street, The Crescent, O’Connell Street, and Barrington Street.

“We are incredibly excited to bring an illuminated Christmas procession to Limerick,” said Mayor of Limerick, John Moran.

“A Magical Winter’s Tale by the celebrated LUXe Theatre Company is a wonderful addition to our Christmas celebrations. We invite everyone to join us and experience the magic of the season through this spectacular event.”

The Mayor added that “we all know Limerick has the best backdrop in Ireland for a magical Georgian Christmas. This year is but the beginning of making that an annual event. I am hoping now that the local residents and businesses will get involved and add their own Christmas cheer and decorations to provide the perfect backdrop for our parade.”
