A LIMERICK-based smart grid technology firm has expended its operations to the United States, setting up a base in Houston, Texas.
Castletroy-based Viotas announced that it has established a new office in the Texan city, aiming to bolster electricity supply there.
The technology pioneered by Viotas helps large electricity customers to heal power imbalances, helping to avert blackouts and increasing renewable energy in the grid.
The new office marks a milestone in the company’s expansion and underscores its commitment to revolutionising energy solutions within the US power grid.
Dr Paddy Finn, co-founder and CEO of Viotas, said that the company will help enable Texas make the move to more renewable sources of energy.
“Texas is experiencing rapid economic growth and a modernised power system is essential to fully unlock this potential. As Texas transitions to more renewable energy, electricity consumers will play an increasingly vital role in maintaining grid balance and stability.”
His fellow co-founder and commercial director of Viotas, Duncan O’Toole said that there are similarities between Texas and Ireland’s power grids.
“We are incredibly proud to bring Viotas’ innovative solutions to Texas, a milestone that reflects our team’s expertise and dedication. Texas and Ireland share unique characteristics in their electricity systems, both functioning as island grids with ambitious renewable energy goals.
“Building on our successes in Ireland and, more recently Australia, we’re excited to apply our expertise in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas market, tackling challenges and capitalising on opportunities within this complex landscape,” Mr O’Toole added.
