Limerick Council scoop three wins at Excellence in Local Government Awards

THREE Limerick City and County Council initiatives have taken home awards from the Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards.

The annual awards ceremony was held in association with the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, sponsored by Orsted, showcasing and celebrating the best of local government in Ireland.

In the diversity and inclusion category, Limerick City and County Council’s Migrant Integration Forum took home the top prize.

Riverfest 2024 was named Festival of the Year, while in the local authority innovation category, the Council’s Living again: Vacancy, Dereliction, and Reuse initiative took home the top prize.

Margaret Considine, President of Chambers Ireland, said that local government across Ireland continues to play an important role in society.

“Local authorities continue to make substantial efforts across multiple areas of Irish society with wide-ranging positive impacts for local communities and the local economy; the Local Government Awards serve as the platform to highlight the irreplaceable value that results.”

Donegal County Council took home the overall Local Authority of the Year award, an accolade that Limerick City and County Council brought Shannonside in 2023.

Ms Considine continued, saying “congratulations to Local Authority of the Year, Donegal County Council, the category winners, the shortlisted organisations and to the people behind all of these excellent projects”.
