LCU performs two major concerts per year and regularly performs at charity events and many other concerts and occasions.

Limerick Choral Union was founded in 1964 to accompany the Radio Eireann Orchestra on its visits to Limerick.

The choir was formed with the intention of bringing together singers from church choirs of all denominations in Limerick and surrounding areas. LCU now has over 140 members, and under the baton of Mr. Malcolm Green since 1996, the choral union is stronger than ever.

Many of LCU’s members have spent many enjoyable years with the choir doing what they love.

One member Stephen O’Shea has been singing with the choral union in the tenor section since its inception, and has supported his fellow choristers in many performances over the years.

In describing his participation with the choir, he noted that LCU meant everything to him and although he had thought of retiring, he was not quite ready!”

Co-Chairs of the LCU Committee Lorraine MacMahon and Denise King are steering the choir through its 60th year.

“It’s such a privilege for us to be co-chairing LCU in such a special and significant year.

“We are enjoying the term so far; preparations are well underway and we are looking forward to all our events throughout the year to mark this amazing milestone.”

October 2024 was a very busy month for LCU. The Mental Health Awareness Concert is an annual event in which LCU enjoy participating, as it affirms the joy of group singing and its benefits for health and wellbeing.

Before departing Limerick in October to participate and represent Limerick in the Musica Sacra International Choral Festival in Istria, Croatia, LCU remembered its passed members with an Annual Mass in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church.

This Mass also remembered our more recently deceased members, PJ Lynch and Neasa Keogh, may they rest in peace, who dedicated a lot of their time in helping the organisation of LCU.

Fresh from the LCU 60th Gala Diamond Evening on Saturday November 2 in the Limerick Strand Hotel, which was an amazing evening and a very joyous occasion.
