NEWCASTLE West native Jim Barrett has confirmed that he is running in the upcoming general election as an Independent candidate in the Limerick County constituency.
Barrett, who has worked for Irish Rail for the past 25 years, says he does not believe in party politics.
“Many of the candidates running are aligned and answerable to their party leaders and executive and it’s obvious this is what’s important to them.
“I will answer to the people and the people will be my boss,” he said, adding he was “a deep desire to help my community and have shown this for years and since the local elections highlighting many issues near and far.”
