PEOPLE in Limerick have ranked among the highest in Ireland for being most interested in packing up and moving away to foreign shores.
That’s according to research conducted by Irish Parcels, based on data gathered from Google search information across Ireland.
The research shows people living in Limerick as the ninth most interested in packing their bags and emigrating abroad.
The data also suggests that a language barrier may be a sticking point for Limerick people, who it reports as being most intrigued by upping sticks to other parts of the English-speaking world, most notably searching for information on relocating to the United Kingdom, followed by Australia, the United States, and Canada.
This is slightly different to the nationwide norm, with Australia reported as the most popular country of interest for people from other counties at large considering emigrating.
Dublin people were found to be the interested in moving abroad with 39,881 monthly searches for information on emigration, or 2,749 searches per 100,000 residents.
People in Limerick racked up 2,064 emigration searches per 100,000 residents.
Ireland’s greatest homebirds, Roscommon people showed the least interest in relocation, with only 1,089 searches per 100,000 residents, followed by Meath, Cork, and Donegal.
Researchers looked for searches relating to moving based on a number of likely prompts, such as ‘best countries to move to’ or ‘how to move from Ireland’ to evaluate the rankings.
Other counties ranking in the top 10 most interested in emigration include Carlow, Longford, Leitrim, Westmeath, Sligo, Louth, Waterford, and Cavan.
