Garda sting nets €110,000 of cocaine in city

RAIDS have been carried out at four residential properties in the Garryowen area. During the searches, Gardaí seized cocaine with a street value of over €110,000 along with 11,000 Alzopralam (Xanax) tablets. A number of rounds of firearms ammunition and a small sum of cash was also seized.

As part of ongoing investigations into the sale and supply of controlled drugs and related criminal activity in the mid-western region, Gardaí from Henry Street Garda Station and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) carried out a search operation in Limerick City this Wednesday (November 20).

A man in his 20s was arrested and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in the Limerick Division.

All substances seized are subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland. Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure forms part of Operation Tara; an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on July 2, 2021.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle, and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels – international, national, and local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale, and supply of controlled drugs.
