50 new jobs in home care to be created in Limerick

The work will provide care and company to older people who need it most.

A LIMERICK home care company is to create 50 new jobs for people working to provide services and care to older people who need help throughout the county.

Home Instead Limerick has announced that it will create 50 new positions for “CAREGivers” throughout the county, providing home care and company for older people who need it most.

Home Instead says that the jobs announcement coincides with the onset of the dark winter evenings which lead to an increase in illness and vulnerability, and will see older people spend more time alone.

General Manager at Home Instead Limerick, Brian O’Sullivan, said that working as a Home Instead CAREGiver provides a social lifeline for people who are housebound.

“Social interaction and companionship are crucial to maintaining good mental health, and helping to prevent cognitive decline particularly in older people and working as a CAREGiver in your local community provides a much-valued lifeline to those older adults who need it,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

Home Instead CAREGivers provide a range of non-medical services to older people from companionship to specialised dementia and palliative care.

As well as helping keep older people safe and well, such care services can also facilitate early hospital discharge, or they can help prevent hospitalisations in the first place.

CAREGivers receive 20 hours free training and receive dedicated office support. They can work to flexible schedules and hours to suit their lifestyles and are recognised and rewarded for their work, Home Instead have said.

“The work is local, the jobs are sustainable, and there are opportunities available in rural and urban areas around the county,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
