TEN years ago, Prima Volta debuted as a three-day music and arts festival under the banner of Limerick City of Culture 2014, featuring internationally acclaimed artists like Fatima, Kutmah, and Illum Sphere.
Since then, Prima Volta has grown and evolved, but its mission remains unchanged: to champion new and emerging Irish talent, with a focus on hip-hop, jazz, and beat-driven music.
Prima Volta will celebrate hosting a vibrant weekender in collaboration with Limerick City and County Council. The event will feature a mix of familiar favourites and exciting new acts.
Peter Curtin, co-founder of Prima Volta, reflected on the milestone:
“The ten years have flown by, but it’s been an absolute pleasure to showcase incredible talent from across Ireland. Over the years, we’ve had the honour of hosting remarkable acts in Limerick for the first time, including Shookrah, Trá Pháidín, April, Jar Jar Jr., Fehdah, Bricknasty, Tomike, The Bonk, and many more.
“This weekender is a celebration of that legacy and the collective spirit that started during Limerick City of Culture 2014. That initial festival gave us the resources to build something lasting, and we’re thrilled to still be here a decade later, spotlighting the best of Irish creative talent. We hope to see everyone on the dancefloor!”
The anniversary celebrations will feature an impressive lineup, including Celaviedmai, Negro Impacto, Hazey Haze, Wastefellow, Cooks But We’re Chefs, Eva Keyes, Brigadier JC, Frankie Downbeat, Macca, Frawley, Jonezy, Bill Baramus, and Peter Curtin himself.
