SEVEN schools across Limerick are set to benefit from enhanced infrastructure around the schoolyard gates, having been successfully added to the third round of the Safe Routes to School programme (SRTS) under two headings.

It was confirmed by Limerick City and County Council that the local schools added to the scheme to see new school zone improvements are Athea NS, Scoil Mhuire NS, Murroe, and Shanagolden NS.

Carnane NS, Glenbrohane NS, Martinstown NS, and Scoil Ailbhe have been mooted for the higher speed rural roads category, which would see a new design approach focusing on alerting motorists to the presence of schools and encouraging lower speeds.
