A CLEARER picture around plans for the proposed flood relief scheme have come to light, with Limerick City and County Council publishing an outline of proposed works as they go before An Bord Pleanála.
The path was cleared for the plans to go forward earlier this month, with Minister for the Office of Public Works, Kieran O’Donnell TD, giving the local authority the green light to submit a planning application.
According to a Council notice, the Castleconnell Flood Relief Scheme will comprise of “a series of walls and embankments along the banks of the River Shannon in Castleconnell, along with demountable flood barriers, road raising works, and removal of vegetation and alterations of a culvert on the Cedarwood Stream”.
Also included in the plans will be new flood walls at Rivergrove B&B and Grange House, Mall House and the Mall Road, Maher’s Pub towards Meadowbrook, and Stormont House driveway.
Plans would also include road raising, a demountable flood barrier, and an earth embankment at Coolbane Woods, along with removal of overgrown vegetation along the railway line at Cedarwood Stream and the replacement of two private culverts.
The Council confirmed that an environmental impact assessment report and a natura impact statement have been prepared as part of the application.
A copy of the plans is available for inspection at the Council offices in Merchant’s Quay and Dooradoyle Road in Limerick City, as well as online on pleanala.ie and castleconnellfrs.ie. Submissions on the plans can be made before January 31, 2025.
