Limerick golf club to host 2027 Junior Ryder Cup

AS well as the Ryder Cup taking place in Adare in 2027, it has now been announced that Limerick will host another version of the Ryder Cup.

The Junior Ryder Cup is set to be held at Ballyneety Golf Club in 2027, the European Ryder Cup has announced this week.

The Limerick club will host two days of foursomes and fourballs between male and female juniors from across Europe and the United States.

The Junior Ryder Cup will take place before the singles matches at Adare Manor, providing a curtain-raiser to whet the appetite of golf fans from the Mid West and beyond.

Ballyneety Golf Club, designed by 2014 Ryder Cup Vice-Captain Des Smyth, is set on 183 acres with views over the Limerick countryside.

Edward Kitson, Junior Ryder Cup Match Director said that the Limerick venue will be a “magnificent host”.

“The venue offers one of the finest parkland golfing experiences in Ireland, and the next generation of golfing superstars will relish the opportunity to compete on the champion-standard layout,” Mr Kitson said.

“These matches will form part of an exciting Ryder Cup week, and fans will be able to see some of the most exciting future talent in action,” he added.

Mayor of Limerick John Moran said that the announcement was fantastic news for Limerick.

“This is a fantastic announcement for the team at Ballyneety Golf Club and for the wider Limerick community. Hosting the 2027 Junior Ryder Cup not only highlights the club’s excellence but also showcases Limerick as a premier destination for international sporting events.”

“It will tee-up the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor perfectly, adding to the significant economic and tourism benefits for the region. We look forward to welcoming the future stars of golf,” Mayor Moran added.

Director General of Limerick City and County Council, Dr Pat Daly said that Ballyneety Golf Club will provide an excellent stage for the world’s top junior golfers.

“Ballyneety Golf Club’s exceptional facilities, dedicated team, and the stunning parkland course will provide a perfect stage for the world’s best junior golfers.”
