Information sought on Limerick priest who served in World War II

Warrant Officer Andy Harris, Padre (Squadron Leader) Dave Skillen, Wing Commander (Retired) Gerry Doyle at the 80th anniversary commemoration of the death of Fr Michael Kelly.

THE BISHOPRIC of the British forces issued a call for help in locating the relatives of the late Father Michael Kelly, a Limerick-born priest who served as a chaplain for the British Royal Airforce during World War II.

Fr Kelly, who passed 80 years ago, is buried in a Commonwealth War Grave at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Fordingbridge, Hampshire.

He was one of four Catholic RAF chaplains from Ireland who died in the war.

Despite past efforts, none of his relatives have ever been identified.

A graveside service was recently held to honour him, led by Padre Dave Skillen, with Mass celebrated by RAF Chaplain Fr James Mealy.
