Council seizes a number of horses across the city and county

TWO abandoned horses were seized this past week from the St Mary’s Park area in Limerick City.

Limerick City and County Council seized two horses from the St Mary’s Park area on November 6, both described as three-year-old brown and white female horses.

The identity of the owner is not known to the local authority.

The owner can make themselves known to the Council with proof of ID and ownership, as well as proof of registration and microchipping, to reclaim the horses.

Meanwhile, three horses were seized by the Council across the month of October.

The first was a three-year-old male Shetland Pony, who was tied up and abandoned in the rain outside a commercial premises on Thomas Street, on October 16.

The second seizure, of a four-year-old Bay male, was made on October 24 on Castlerock Avenue in Castleconnell.

The third horse, a four-year-old brown and white female, was seized in Ballyculleen, Banogue, Croom, on October 30.

Horses detained by the local authority are held for five days before being disposed of in accordance with the Control of Horses Act, 1996, with most being rehomed to horse charities outside of Limerick.
