A MAN was seriously injured near the People’s Park in Limerick City this Tuesday morning, following what is understood to have been a fall from a ladder.
Sources at the scene said the man, who was working on a site on Upper Mallow Street, fell from a ladder and impaled his leg on a fence below him.
The incident occurred shortly before noon this Tuesday morning (November 12) at a site adjoining a row of apartments overlooking the popular city park.
According to sources at the scene, the man was working on a development adjoining the residential apartments when he fell from a ladder and onto the fence below, impaling his leg on the fence’s upright bars.
It is understood that the man’s coworkers rushed to his aid following the fall, seeking the help of workers at another site nearby. Sources explained that the man was held up to keep pressure off his leg as they awaited for emergency services.
The scene was attended by three units from the fire services, Gardaí, and two units from the National Ambulance Service.
Emergency responders used a small crane to support the man while he was freed from the fence with the use of a number of rescue tools.
