Extended opening hours for St John’s injury unit

St. John's Hospital Limerick

AN extension of the opening hours at the injury unit at St John’s Hospital in Limerick City has been announced.

As of this month, the St John’s injury until will open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, the HSE has confirmed.

The unit is intended for minor and non-life-threatening injuries that are unlikely to require a hospital stay, including broken bones, sprains, dislocations, minor burns and wounds.

The unit last year treated 17,583 patients.

It is hoped the move will help relieve some of the pressure on the emergency department in University Hospital Limerick.

The announcement comes alongside extended opening hours at Ennis and Nenagh hospitals, also open daily from 8am to 8pm for patients across the Mid West.
