THIS NOVEMBER, Science Week 2024 will ignite curious minds across Limerick, with an inspiring number of events for all ages set to take place across the Treaty City.
Since its inception in 1996, Science Week – the largest science festival in Ireland – has involved industry, colleges, schools, libraries, teachers, researchers, and students nationwide to improve scientific literacy.
With a diverse lineup of activities for Science Week 2024 (November 10 to 17), Limerick will be buzzing with scientific events as it joins in the national celebration.
Highlights on Shannonside include a talk on the genetic history of the Irish people by Dr Edmund Gilbert at the University of Limerick November 12.
A ‘Science of Beer’ workshop at Treaty City Brewery (November 15) will spill over with insights into brewing, while an introduction to the ‘Science of Chocolate’ will take place at Mary Immaculate College on the same day – both events will have some tasty samples in store.
There will also be STEM exhibits at the Ballyhoura Science Fair on November 16, providing hands-on learning experiences with talks, and demonstrations through non-formal and interactive education.
Dr Ruth Freeman, director of Science for Society at Research Ireland, said that in this year’s Science Week, “there is something for all generations, and I would encourage everyone in Limerick to get involved, whether by attending local events, engaging online, or sharing experiences with friends and family”.
Most events throughout Science Week are free, but registration may be required. For the full list of events, visit scienceweek.ie.
