Joint success in Adare Bypass tender announcement

A MAJOR road infrastructure project in County Limerick has successfully gone to tender, Limerick City and County Council has announced.

John Sisk and Sons and Sorensen Civil Engineering were announced as the joint successful tenderers for the Adare Bypass project, with hopes of having the contract for the project awarded by the end of this year.

In November 2023, the government announced its approval to fast-track the construction of the Adare Bypass to facilitate its earliest possible delivery ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup.

The bypass is hoped to help to divert unnecessary traffic away from the village of Adare and remove a significant point of congestion on the N21 ahead of the major golfing tournament.

Mayor of Limerick John Moran welcomed the progress on the Adare Bypass, describing the announcement of the tender winners as “significant”.

He was it was a “priority of the mayoral programme to advance the Adare Bypass. To have it in place by the autumn of 2027 remains very ambitious and would represent a significant achievement given the time remaining.”

“Many risks to a successful outcome are outside the control of the Council. Limerick City and County Council will do everything it can to achieve this ambitious target but requires the goodwill and active cooperation of all agencies/stakeholders involved and/or affected by the project,” Mayor Moran added.

The Adare Bypass is a key part of the Foynes to Limerick Road project, which will see 35 kilometers of road connecting Limerick City to the port at Foynes.
