
OVER โฌ600,000 in funding has been awarded to community centresย and projects across Limerick this week as part of the Government’s Community Centres Investment Fund.
34 community projects across Limerick were awarded a share of โฌ604,325 as part of the fund, which aims to support upgrade and refurbishment works.
Funding is available in two categories – category one for minor works with a maximum of โฌ25,000, and category two for larger works with a maximum grant aid of โฌ100,000. This weeks announcement confirmed the category one allocations.
Following the announcement, โฌ17,565 in funding has been allocated to 23rd Limerick Christ the King Scouts to fund the replacement of windows and doors in the centre, โฌ25,000 has been awarded to Adare Recreation and Community Complex Company for the Adare Community Hub to fund community pavilion upgrades, air conditioning, energy monitoring, and management, while โฌ20,981 was awarded to Ardagh Community Hub to fund the replacement of doors and windows, improve insulation, and renovate corridor and toilet areas.
Funding was also awarded to Askeaton Civic Trust Centre (โฌ22,794), Ballinvreena Community Centre (โฌ19,804), Caherelly Community Centre (โฌ14,155), Cappagh Community Hall (โฌ13,870),ย and Castleconnell Parish Community Centre (โฌ24,800).
Other community centres across the city and county that were awarded funding include Colmanswell Community Centre (โฌ23,275), Doon Community Centre (โฌ14,409), Gerald Griffin Community Resource Centre (โฌ17,238), Kilfinane Community Council (โฌ23,690), and Saint Mary’s Cathedral Community Centre (โฌ13,887).
Allocations under category two funding will be announced in the coming months.
Welcoming the announcement, Limerick Minister of State for the OPW, Kieran O’Donnell, said that the funding awards will greatly benefit communities across Limerick.
“This is a really welcome announcement by An Taoiseach, Simon Harris, and the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, and one which will really benefit community centres in Limerick, which are used by the whole community here,” he said.
Another Limerick Minister of State, Niall Collins TD, also welcomed the funding confirmation, saying that “these grants will make a big difference. They will go towards supporting local groups to improve kitchen and toilet facilities, replace old windows and doors, upgrade the heating system, and improve disability access.”
