€5,000 has been awarded to Limerick City and County Council to help encourage the participation of women and diverse groups in local government.
The funding comes as part of a tranche of over €190,000 nationwide allotted to local authorities and caucuses to bolster diversity in political life.
Announcing the funding, Minister of State for Planning and Local Government Alan Dillon said that “a record 681 female candidates stood in the June local elections, representing an almost 18 per cent increase on the previous elections in 2019, while the number of migrant candidates participating almost doubled”.
He expressed hopes that this new founding round can help promote diversity in local government even further.
