The Urban Co-op scoops National Organic Award

THE Urban Co-op in Limerick was won the Business in the Community Award for Bord Bia National Organic Awards.

The National Organic Awards, held in association with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), celebrate the achievements and high standards of the increasing number of organic growers, producers, and manufacturers in the country.

A total of seven awards were presented on the day from a shortlist of a large entry this year.

The Irish Organic Champion 2024 went to Colin Keogh, from The Organic Trust, with a special recognition for the work of Sean McGloin from the National Organic Training Skillnet.

The New and Innovative Award was given to Garryhinch Wood Exotic Mushrooms, County Offaly, for their Shiitake and White Beach offering.

The Business in Community Award went to Limerick’s Urban Co-Op.

Best Irish Organic Product Award was for the Clare-based Burren Smokehouse Ltd, for the Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon.

The Direct to Consumer Award was given to Galway’s Green Earth Organics for their 100 per cent Irish Farm Box.

Best Irish Organic Export Product Award belonged to Flahavan’s Organic Porridge.

Anne Maher, managing director of The Urban Co-op said the business was “delighted to be the recipients of this National Organic Award. We are among quality company indeed. This is a recognition of the work of a growing community interested in provision and access of organic food and we are excited about where this journey will bring us.”
