Anniversary celebration for Ballinacurra Gaels

The Ballinacurra Gaels anniversary celebration will take place next week.

AN OPEN invitation is extended to the 45th Anniversary Celebrations of Ballinacurra Gaels GAA Club at The Blue Bar, Punches Cross on Wednesday next (November 6), from 7pm onwards.

It’s an opportunity for current and past friends to view some memorabilia and share memories, with the strong likelihood of some special silverware on display.

The Gaels was founded in 1979 to meet the sporting needs of the younger generations in the newer estates of Ballinacurra Gardens, Roundwood and Lifford Gardens as well as the long-established Ballinacurra Road, Greenfields and South Circular Road and over time has expanded to welcome young players from other areas including Ashbourne Ave, Prospect, Hyde Road, Ballinacurra Weston, Janesboro, Southill, and Rosbrien.

Its first chairperson was the late noted historian Séamus Ó Ceallaigh, who was followed soon after by Dinah Sheehan, one of the first female holders of such a role.

The club’s heyday was during the 1980s and ‘90s, during which it won nine county titles.
